BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING NOTES
May 18, 2010
PELIMINARIES Call to Order, Roll Call, Public Meeting Announcement, Salute to the Flag, Minutes, Communications.
ROA Survey Report- Sandy Slabik, President of the ROA, presented some results from a survey conducted recently of its membership. The report supported the main issues of why people come to Stone Harbor. Surprising was the increase in peoples interest in permanently living in Stone Harbor in the future, 29% in 2005 and 42% in this last survey. More information can be found on the ROA website.
Stone Harbor Triathlon- Rob Hicks asked council to approve the 12th annual Stone Harbor Triathlon hosted by the Stone Harbor Yacht Club on July 18th. Participants come primarily from the tri-state area, although some from the Midwest and west coast planning their vacations around this event. Motion PASSED
MONTHLY REPORTS
Public Safety- 835 licensed rental units, 830 inspected, 202 needed re-inspection.
Donation of a new fire boat was received, bids for a new ambulance will go out, and received delivery of new fire truck. Three accidents, arrests, one each, for shoplifting, forged documents and bad checks.
Natural Resources- Between 104th to 111th Beach outfall pipes have been removed and snow fences being replaced. For the Birds cocktail party June 12th at 96th Street open parking lot next to Stone Harbor Pizza to support the Bird Sanctuary. Tours of the Bird Sanctuary were conducted during Sail into Summer Festival.
Beach and Recreation- 3086 Beach Tags sold totaling $67,720, seventeen (17) Beach Inspectors; June 5th Lifeguard tryouts; May 30th Turtle Trot, 200 to 300 runners; May27th Official Unlocking of the Beach; Seven Mile Resaurant Event with Avavlon, June 5th – 11th; June 24th Media Day; Great Jersey Shore Debate
Utilities- Looking into solar projects and LCD lighting
Public Works- received assistance from ROA on locating hanging baskets and urns; repairing damage to beach shed roof; new roof completed on the Water Works building; curb damage being repaired from blizzard; 92nd Street reflectors installed.
Administration and Finance- Projects- Contractor on schedule for First Ave paving; Public Works building repairs almost completed, 99th street bulkhead repaired/replaced; 87th and 88th paving first coat done; additional road improvements scheduled for this fall; Solar panels waiting to be installed at Public Works
Motion was made and seconded to accept and approve the reports- all in favor

n. Motion- Approve Special Event Community Options 5K Race Febuary 12, 2011- Approved
DISCUSSION
Motion to pay the bills. Approved
Mr. Bauer- questioned where money was going from parking meters. Previous discussions stated monies would be used for lowering taxes, yet ordinance states monies are to be used for maintaining the parking meters. Mayor acknowledged that council should look into this.
