COMMITTEE REPORTS
Safety- report by Fire Chief Stanford on inspections of rental units. So far 26 have failed due to an absence of a fire extinguisher. Councilman Bauer asked about legislation that exempted seasonal rentals from having a fire extinguisher. The chief responded that the legislation was not applicable to Stone Harbor. Mr. Bauer argued that state fire officials did not want to encourage renters to fight a fire in a rental unit. This logic seemed to have prompted this legislation. Mr. Bauer continued by asking if having a fire extinguisher gave a renter a sense of safety. The chief explained training of the use of fire extinguishers would help, although the Fire Department currently had nothing planned. A comment was made that perhaps the ROA could provide the fire extinguisher training. It could not be determined who made the statement.
The chief also gave an overview of the fire on 94th Street and that the “balloon” construction used in 1912 offered no fire walls between floors that engulfed almost the entire building. He stated residents could view the fire via U-Tube.

Al Carusi- asked Mayor and council for support of North Wildwood Catholic. What is happening is systemic in Cape May County. Trying to keep the school open needs reinforcement.
