American Legion and Bird Sanctuary New Wings and Water Stops

Visit American Legion Post during Wings and Water

Trolley stops have been added at the American Legion Post and The Bird Sanctuary  on 2nd Avenue for Wings and Water Weekend, September 17 - 19.

The Legion building is the oldest structure in Stone Harbor. It was built in 1895 as a Life-Saving Station for the federal Life-Saving Service program, a predecessor of the Coast Guard. It is on the State and National Historic Registers of Historic Places and will be open for visits on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18 and 19.

Take some time during your weekend to see the historic displays of the Life-saving Service, the Coast Guard and our military services. Check out the many murals, the descriptive display panels, the stories of honored heroes, an 1865 painting of Seven Mile Beach, the military museum and, of course, the building itself with its observation tower and vistas of Stone Harbor, the ocean, Hereford Inlet and the bay. This facility is a real treasure for our community and its heritage.
